MILITARY LIFE

In 2001, I was a freshman at Clemson University when I ran into a super cute sophomore who lived a couple of floors below me. We hit it off and it was evident from the beginning that we had something special. A few days after we met, he casually mentioned that he was an ROTC cadet. I sort of shrugged it off and said “that’s cool” and then went back to more pressing matters – which probably involved discussing the Fine Young Cannibals or making out on the futon.

The more we got to know each other, the more we realized that we made a pretty good team. We were a force to be reckoned with at bar trivia and we managed to have an absolute blast together during even the most mundane of circumstances. In 2004 Clay commissioned into the Army, graduated college, proposed, and moved 3000 miles away to begin his Army career at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

We were married in the middle of my senior year of college and upon my graduation, I joined him up at Fort Drum, New York. Since then, we’ve gone through deployments, countless TDYs, moved multiple times, added couple of children to the mix, and experienced a lifetime of adventure.

It’s not a perfect life. It’s not an easy life. But it is our life.

And it’s pretty damn amazing.
